Zuda Submission Sketch

I'm just starting the coloring stage of my eight page submission to zudacomics.com. I finished up all of the inking over the last couple of days in between other work. I actually think I've come up with a pretty good little story. The style of art I'm doing is a bit unconventional, but I think interesting. Maybe. Maybe not. Anyway, here's a scan of one of the inked pages. Judge for yourself.

Zombie T-Shirts

The last couple weeks have been EXTREMELY hectic as I've had a surprising amount of product design work coming in, as well as a few other time intensive things. I'm expecting stuff to die down a bit over the next couple of weeks, which is good because I can use the extra time to get some work done on some other projects I have going. I'm actually working on a submission to zuda comics believe it or not (I'll post some scans on Friday maybe) and hopefully I can get some of that done this week.

This week I put threw up a couple zombie t-shirt designs I kind of did on a whim over at redbubble.com and I've gotten a surprising response.

Someone (who apparently has even less sense in style than I do) even bought the hippie one.

Anyway, I already have three more in the sketch phase and I think all three of them completely blow away the two I've done so far.

I'm digging drawing dead people.

Maybe a job in the morgue is in my future?

Work in Progress - Finished

FINISHED ANOTHER ONE!

Once again I defied the laws of time and space and managed to find an opportunity to complete the second piece in my monsters chasing a kid series. I think the next one I do is going to feature the gang on top of a train, though I haven't started work on it yet. As far as this snow one goes, I kinda like it. I think the kids outfit is good, and I like the composition for the most part.

Hope everyone enjoyed the Easter holiday. I spent it with my wife and her family, which always provides for more than one awkward moment, but then I guess that's what families are for, right? Awkward moments I mean.

The four year old daughter of my wife's cousin was asked to give me a hug by her mother but instead she took one look at me, put her hands over her eyes, then proceeded to yell at the top of her lungs "NO! SCARED! SCARED! SCARED!"

Everyone laughed.

You know...because apparently I'm scary.

Work in Progress - Update

I was able to get a little work done on the above monster piece over the last couple days, though it required me to get little to no sleep in order to do it.

Sleep is a luxury anyway, right?

Right?

Or, wait, no...I'm thinking of an expensive car.

Silly me.

NEW Work in Progress

I got started on the second in the little monsters chasing a kid series that I've been working on lately. I'll be turning it into a book eventually. I'm pretty excited about these. I like the way they're looking so far. (Which is pretty rare for me.) Usually, ten to fifteen seconds after finishing a piece, I find myself fighting the urge to run out to the garage, dig through the cats litter box, retrieve some poop, run back upstairs, then proceed to paint it a lovely shade of nutty brown.

Wow.

I got way too descriptive with that last bit, didn't I?

I should go.

Extremely Busy

I've been extremely busy lately doing work that actually makes me money, which enables me to pay my mortgage, buy comic books, and occasionally take the wife out to dinner (to a restaurant of moderate pricing), that I haven't had a heck of a lot of time to work on other stuff, or even just dust off the ol' sketchbook and sketch a bit.

Which sucks.

Sucks harder than an N'Sync reunion concert. (Which is an amazing amount of suck'age.)

Anyway, today's sketch is from a line of zombie/holiday cards (because zombies and the holidays go together like milk and cookies) I'm doing for the fun of it. They'll be available at redbubble.com. I have no idea when I'm going to get them all done, but it will more likely be sooner then later.

Which again, sucks.

Man, a lot of stuff sure does suck today.

Enjoy the weekend,

School Mascot Logo - Update

I don't really have anything new to put up today. Haven't had a chance to scan anything as I've been EXTREMELY busy doing a lot of product design (believe it or not) and a few other things. The school I did these logos for is more than likely not going to be using a chipmunk anymore.

I guess someone realized that it isn't a very imposing animal.

Anyway, I'll still be doing a logo for them, but it looks as of now that this one is scrapped, which is a shame because I kind of liked this little guy.

I gave him mean eyes...he looks imposing...no?

Work In Progress - Finished

Well, I didn't think I would be able to even get an opportunity to work on it, and instead I managed to finish it!

If I weren't so inflexible and brittle-boned from years of being hunched over my drawing table I would pat myself on the back.

I'm actually pretty proud of the way this one turned out. I tried a sort of cross-hatch look and for the most part I'm pleased with the results. (For me to say that I'm pleased with anything that I've created is about as rare as Brittney Spears winning a "mother of the year" award.

Work In Progress

I started on this one last weekend. Here's my initial sketch and some of the rough color that I've laid down to get started. Granted, it may not look all that impressive at the moment (in fact, more than likely it looks downright crappy) but I'm actually extremely excited about this one. I'm going to try a little something different in the way I finish it and I have high hopes.

Hopefully I'll find some time this weekend to work on it as I've got a few other jobs that will likely keep me pretty busy (and result in my getting paid, which is always desired...especially to the bill collectors). Plus I'm going to attempt to drag my wife to see "The Bank Job" at some point.

I might have to lie to her and tell her it's a romantic comedy. Maybe one staring Jennifer Aniston. The woman can't resist crappy Jennider Aniston films.

Hopefully I'm able to get this piece done sometime next week but I think I that's an idealistic estimate. Kinda like when I made that 2007 New Year's resolution to drop twenty pounds, hit the weights and get as "ripped as the world's most absolute rippiest of ripped men."

Things didn't exactly work out that way.

Honest Abe a No-Go

I did this quick sketch a couple weeks ago for an Abe Lincoln picture book job that I ended up not getting. It seemed a shame to let it simply drift off into the oblivion that is sometimes called the closet in my office, which also happens to be filled with about fifteen million other drawings, without ever being seen...so here it is.

I dunno, I kind of dig it.

You've got to be a REAL man to make a bow-tie work and I think Abe pulls it off quite well.

Just a Sketch

I drew this on an airplane trip a while ago. Not much else to offer up today as I've got a lot of work to get done.

Which is a good thing.

And a bad thing.

Mostly a good thing though.
